You’ve all hear the news reports and some of the statistics about social networking. It’s usage is exploding. Some of you probably use Facebook to keep in touch with family / friends. That’s great. It’s important to not bury your head in the sand about social media because it represents a fundamental shift in how we are now communicating – and therefore how our children will communicate and operate in the world.
The You Tube video above puts it in great perspective. A couple of points are staggering:
Facebook tops Google for traffic
If Facebook were a country it would be the third largest behind China and India with 500 million users
80% of companies now use social media for recruitment
Gen Y and Z now consider Email passé
And Social Media has now overtaken porn as the number one activity on the web
